Over 90 participate in See You at the Pole 2015 at Bessemer Academy
Gathering together around our flag pole this morning was a sizable group of students, parents, faculty, and staff. Over 90 participated, assembling in small prayer groups and finally in one large circle. We prayed for each other, our families, our school, our community, our nation, and for students who attend schools where prayer is not allowed. We also thanked God for BA where we can pray freely. Senior Mike Williams led the final prayer. Thank you to Mr. Kitchens, our Teens for Christ sponsor, for organizing the event and to student pastor Chris Williams of Flint Hill Baptist Church for leading us in prayer this morning.
Rebel Cheer hosts 56 girls at annual cheer clinic
On Saturday, September 12, 2015, the JV and varsity cheerleading squads held their annual cheer clinic. Each year, girls in grades K4 through 5th attend this one day clinic to learn and perfect cheer skills. This year’s participants had a blast, learned some great cheers, and made new friends. Fall Induction Ceremony held for Junior & Senior Beta Club at Bessemer Academy
On Friday, August 28, the Junior and Senior chapters of the National Beta Club at Bessemer Academy inducted new members. BA Library now has ebooks!
This is an exciting time for the Bessemer Academy Library! With a generous grant from our Board we now have books available in THREE formats: a regular hardback book, a web-hosted ebook, and a scan-to-read ebook. Students may either check out the physical book from the BA Library, access the book on the Internet*, or scan a QR Code in the library with the QR Reader app on their tablet or phone. We are so excited to announce that BAND will be returning to BA this school year! This is something we have been wanting for a long time, and due to our school’s growth and success, the Board of Directors and our Headmaster have been able to expand the fine arts course offerings by adding band. Our new band director, Mr. Rick White, comes to us with 36 years experience as a band director. He spent 25 years in the Jefferson County system and has recently retired from his years directing in the Walker County School system. He has a BA and an MA from the University of Montevallo. Mr. White will be teaching a high school band class as well as a middle school rotation class where he hopes to inspire 6-8th graders to join band as high schoolers. Dear Parents, Welcome back to a new school year. We are excited your students will be at Bessemer Academy this year. Please know that we will do whatever we can to assist you and your child. The Bessemer Academy Board of Directors is actively working to ensure that the school campus meets the needs of our staff and students. We are so excited to announce that a new building that will include 10 new classrooms is now under construction. This will create some constraints, a few issues at times, and some inconveniences. We ask for your patience as we continue to work on improvements that will be in the best interest in our school.
