BA Standout Wes Davis attends Military Service Academy Program
On October 9, 2014, Wes Davis (9th Grade) attended an informational program regarding the United States Military Service Academies hosted by U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell at the Birmingham Public Library. The informational program covered the minimum requirements needed for attendance and offered attendees advice on the proper course of action to have the best possibilities for appointment to one of the five academies. There were representatives from each of the academies there to cover the pro and cons of attendance of there institutions as well as provide informational material from their respective schools. Congresswoman Sewell stated that she can appoint five people from Alabama’s 7th Congressional District yearly and that she has started hosting these programs to raise awareness of the great opportunities available for a quality education provided by our service academies. Appointment is required to attend one of these academies and the scholarships are valued at between $300,000 -$400,000 dollars. Chromebook Classroom Now at BA
2014-15 Bessemer Academy now has a Google Chromebooks classroom! Our Research & Writing class shows off the Google Chromebooks they will be using in our first paperless classroom. In this college preparatory class, students prepare for the rigors of academic writing they will be required to use in post-secondary courses. In addition to these research and writing skills, our senior honors class will also be writing, designing, and publishing our weekly school newspaper as well as maintaining our school website. Want to help a deserving Bessemer Academy high school senior? Here’s how: Bessemer Academy is looking for civic-minded individuals who want to provide encouragement and financial assistance to outstanding senior students on track for college admission. Establish a scholarship in a loved one’s memory, to recognize a person or a company, or in the name of a civic organization. Choose to sponsor a scholarship for athletics, academics, leadership, or citizenship/character. You choose the amount, the type of scholarship, the criteria, and eventually the student who will receive the award. We welcome you or your organization’s representative to award the scholarship to the deserving senior at our Senior Class Awards Day Ceremony each year.
