There is always something going on in the Bessemer Academy family. Here are a few things to know for the month of November: Thanksgiving Lunch If you would like to attend thanksgiving lunch with your BA student, please complete this form and turn in to the main office. Student lunch prices are the same, and additional lunches are $6.00/person. Please complete the form and include payment by Thursday, November 14th. Cookie Dough Sale The basketball teams are selling cookie dough until November 13th. If you would like to purchase some, see a basketball player or contact the main office. Cookie dough will be delivered before the end of the semester. First Round of Playoffs Bessemer Academy football will host Fort Dale Academy Friday, November 8, for the first round of the playoffs. Tickets are $8 each, and student passes cannot be used for playoff games. Come cheer on your Rebels!

Semester exams for Fall 2019 will begin Tuesday, December 10 and continue through Tuesday, December 17. Christmas holidays begin on Wednesday, December 18. The link below contains the daily schedule for grades 6-12 during exams. Semester exam schedule

The Rebel family celebrated our senior volleyball players, football players, cheerleaders, and Rebelettes last week. These seniors have shown great leadership on our campus and given of their talents to our school. We would like to thank them for their dedication and express to the parents how much we appreciate them for their support. Volleyball Mary Beth Bailey has played volleyball at BA for 6 years. She is also part of the basketball and track teams, SGA, Ambassadors, and a member of Beta Club. Kirstin Ely has played volleyball at BA for 6 years. In addition to serving as Volleyball captain, she is also SGA president, part of the Beta Club, an  Ambassador, and has been on the basketball team. Creep Out The Cougars Game pictures and videos The Game Bessemer Academy celebrated its 50th anniversary with a 31-17 win over Escambia Academy. The Rebel defense took over, causing 8 fumbles, including a scoop and score by Junior Brandon Sumerlin. Senior Judson Hogeland led the defense with 11 tackles, followed by Freshman LT Overton’s 10 (including 4 tackles for loss). Junior quarterback PJ McDonald passed for 141 yards, completing 10 of 13, with 2 touchdowns. Junior Jarvis Dancy rushed for 95 yards on 6 carries. Pre-Game Before the game the Bessemer Academy Band took the field for the first time since its return a few years ago. The students performed classics like “Sweet Caroline” and “Eye of the Tiger,” featuring the Rebelettes and Cheerleaders. The Bessemer Academy track team headed down to Gulf Shores last Wednesday to compete in the AISA State track tournament. Our boys team came in second place overall, with three first-place finishes. The boys won the 4×100 meter relay, Justin Jones scored a win at the 300m hurdles, and Josh McMillon won the 200m dash. Additionally, Josh McMillon placed 2nd in the 100m dash, KC Harrison 2nd in the 200m, Ben Casey 2nd in the triple jump, and Braxton Griffin 3rd in shot put. Meanwhile, the girls scored third place in the 4x100m relay and Tristen Sellers placed third in the 400m dash. Overall, Bessemer Academy Boy’s team finished second in the state, while the Bessemer Academy Girl’s finished sixth.

The Bessemer Academy Foundation consists of all individuals obligated to pay a student’s tuition pursuant to the enrollment contract. The Foundation meets yearly to discuss school business and elect the new Bessemer Academy Board of Directors. The meeting will be held the second Thursday in May (May 9, 2019) at 6:00 pm in the Bessemer Academy Gym. Please make plans to attend. If you would like to nominate a member of the foundation to be considered for a position on the BA Board of Directors, please email Brooke Nixon at brooke.m.nixon (at) gmail (dot) com no later than 5:00 pm on April 28, 2018.
