The Game
Bessemer Academy celebrated its 50th anniversary with a 31-17 win over Escambia Academy. The Rebel defense took over, causing 8 fumbles, including a scoop and score by Junior Brandon Sumerlin. Senior Judson Hogeland led the defense with 11 tackles, followed by Freshman LT Overton’s 10 (including 4 tackles for loss). Junior quarterback PJ McDonald passed for 141 yards, completing 10 of 13, with 2 touchdowns. Junior Jarvis Dancy rushed for 95 yards on 6 carries.
Pre-Game
Before the game the Bessemer Academy Band took the field for the first time since its return a few years ago. The students performed classics like “Sweet Caroline” and “Eye of the Tiger,” featuring the Rebelettes and Cheerleaders. They finished up with the fight song and “I’ll Fly Away.”
Homecoming Court
Baleigh Jones, Homecoming Queen 2018, returned to Bessemer Academy from UAB to crown our 2019 court.
