The Rebels finished off an incredible 20-2 season with a 63-46 victory over Tuscaloosa Academy to win the AISA AAA State Championship! The Rebels finished the regular season 17-2, and began their state tournament with a 52-47 victory over Lee-Scott Academy. Preston Jones led the Rebels scoring 20 points, with LT and Micaiah Overton adding 11 and 10 points respectively. After beating Lee-Scott, the Rebels faced Pike Liberal Arts, coming away with a 61-47 win. Preston Jones and Josh McMillon led the Rebels with 15 and 11 points, with LT and Micaiah Overton adding 11 and 10 rebounds each. Bessemer Academy then faced Tuscaloosa Academy for the fourth time this season. The Rebels led the series 2-1 coming into the State Final Game. This year’s school science fair took place on January 19, 2019. There were 294 projects submitted from 6th through 12th grade. This is the largest fair in the school’s history. Because of the amount of projects submitted, there were 30 judges involved with the event. This was not only the biggest science fair ever, but the most successful too, sending more projects on to compete at the state level. The success was no surprise. The judges thought very highly of the winning projects with many wonderful comments. Mrs. Ludvik did a wonderful job in the off season by acquiring new equipment to further test and allow different types of projects to participate this year. Mrs. Ludvik even said, “I am super proud of everyone for working so hard.” The district science fair was also held at Bessemer Academy this year. Nia Mya Reese is a eight year old author who wrote a children’s book on how to deal with your “annoying” little brother. Her book, “How To Deal With And Care For Your Annoying Little Brother,” is now a best-seller which she claims only took a few days to write. She started writing this book in her first grade class, and she says it didn’t take her very long. Her book teaches patience and kindness to children. She visited Bessemer Academy to read her story to young students on Friday, January 25th. It was featured on Focus 4 Channel 6 on Tuesday, January 29th. Her book teaches children how to be nice and wonderful helpers, one little girl even said this book “helped her to not be mean.” She also taught the children at Bessemer Academy you can never be too young to follow your dreams, and she cannot wait…

**Correction: 4th period exam Wednesday Exams will begin Monday, December 10th for 6th-12th grade students.   Daily schedule during exam week: 1st exam 8:00am-9:30am Break 9:30am-10:00am 2nd exam 10:00am-11:30am   All 6th-12th students will be dismissed at 11:30am each day. Make up exams require administrative approval.   School dress code is required during exams!

The Fall 2018 Beta Club Induction Ceremony was held October 9, 2018. The Beta Club inducted 62 new members: 40 into the Senior Beta Club, grades 9-12; and 22 into the Junior Beta Club, grades 7 and 8. The Beta Club exists to recognize certain characteristics among students. These characteristics are expressed through the acronym “HARVEST”: Honesty, Achievement, Responsibility, Vision, Enthusiasm, Sincerity, and Tolerance. In keeping with one of the tenets of Beta Club, service, each new inductee presented a donation of canned and dry foods to be given to a local food bank.
