More great news from Bessemer Academy: BAND!

We are so excited to announce that BAND will be returning to BA this school year! This is something we have been wanting for a long time, and due to our school’s growth and success, the Board of Directors and our Headmaster have been able to expand the fine arts course offerings by adding band.

Our new band director, Mr. Rick White, comes to us with 36 years experience as a band director. He spent 25 years in the Jefferson County system and has recently retired from his years directing in the Walker County School system. He has a BA and an MA from the University of Montevallo.

Mr. White will be teaching a high school band class as well as a middle school rotation class where he hopes to inspire 6-8th graders to join band as high schoolers. This will be the best way to build our program for the future.

Mr. White explained, “Marching at football games, college honor bands, performances, and concerts are all in the plans. How fast we are able to accomplish these goals depends on the skill level of our first members. We have some members who came to BA with previous experience, so we aren’t starting from nothing.”

Understandably, we won’t have a full field marching band at the first football game, but the Rebel Nation is glad to have the ball rolling with a new band program, and we look forward to great things to come!
