Day 1- Homecoming Week 2016: Where Are They Now? An alumni update
This homecoming week we are delighted to bring you an alumni update each day since this is the week when we invite all our former students to COME HOME to the Academy. Day 1 focuses on our alumni who are in the military or are in a civil servant position- fire, rescue, EMT, police, etc. We are proud of you all and proud that you call BA home. Sam Scarborough (’13)- United States Army Sam enlisted September 13, 2013 in McCalla. He went through Basic Combat Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and was in the Charlie Battery, 1/79 Field Artillery Brigade followed by AIT school at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He is a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear warfare specialist where he conducts recon for an area for CBRN weapons, eliminates enemy targets, disarms nuclear warheads, and decontaminates affected CBRN areas. Key Club Food Drive a HUGE success!
Thank you to all who donated food, teachers who offered persuasive bonus points, and students who helped me collect and count the items for our 2015 Key Club Food Drive! We truly showed our Rebel Way! We raised 1,024 nonperishable food items. This is an amazing amount, and the food pantry to which we donated the food was overwhelmed with our generosity. This year’s high school/middle school winner was 8th grade with 255 cans of chicken and the elementary winner was 4th grade with 73 boxes of instant potatoes. Way to go!! Pizza party coming soon! Fall Induction Ceremony held for Junior & Senior Beta Club at Bessemer Academy
On Friday, August 28, the Junior and Senior chapters of the National Beta Club at Bessemer Academy inducted new members. Want to help a deserving Bessemer Academy high school senior? Here’s how: Bessemer Academy is looking for civic-minded individuals who want to provide encouragement and financial assistance to outstanding senior students on track for college admission. Establish a scholarship in a loved one’s memory, to recognize a person or a company, or in the name of a civic organization. Choose to sponsor a scholarship for athletics, academics, leadership, or citizenship/character. You choose the amount, the type of scholarship, the criteria, and eventually the student who will receive the award. We welcome you or your organization’s representative to award the scholarship to the deserving senior at our Senior Class Awards Day Ceremony each year.
