The members of our junior and senior Beta Club chapter hosted a cinnamon & orange roll sale with the proceeds going to Team Kynethia Kelley and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  Kynethia is a parent of two students at Bessemer Academy, and she is currently fighting breast cancer. On Wednesday, October 21, 2015, representatives from the senior Beta Club presented her with the results of the bake sale. She said, “I am honored and humbled by the hard work of the students at BA to raise this money, and it inspires me to keep fighting.” Special recognition goes to Mrs. Amanda Howard and the junior Beta Club members for selling 97 out of the 187 pans sold school wide. Mrs. Kaye Reach, senior Beta Club sponsor, would like to thank the BA family for making a difference in the life of one of our own.

Thank you to all who donated food, teachers who offered persuasive bonus points, and students who helped me collect and count the items for our 2015 Key Club Food Drive! We truly showed our Rebel Way! We raised 1,024 nonperishable food items. This is an amazing amount, and the food pantry to which we donated the food was overwhelmed with our generosity. This year’s high school/middle school winner was 8th grade with 255 cans of chicken and the elementary winner was 4th grade with 73 boxes of instant potatoes. Way to go!! Pizza party coming soon! Gathering together around our flag pole this morning was a sizable group of students, parents, faculty, and staff. Over 90 participated, assembling in small prayer groups and finally in one large circle. We prayed for each other, our families, our school, our community, our nation, and for students who attend schools where prayer is not allowed. We also thanked God for BA where we can pray freely. Senior Mike Williams led the final prayer. Thank you to Mr. Kitchens, our Teens for Christ sponsor, for organizing the event and to student pastor Chris Williams of Flint Hill Baptist Church for leading us in prayer this morning.
